Women’s charity wins £250 in Thursfields’ prize draw

Thursfields Solicitors was a proud sponsor of this year’s Institute of Fundraising West Midlands Conference which took place in Birmingham last month.

Charities in attendance had the opportunity to win a donation of £250 and the prize was picked up by Emily Johnson of Anawim– Women Working Together, which exists to support women and their children, especially women vulnerable to exploitation including homelessness, sexual violence and domestic abuse.

Katherine Ellis, a Senior Associate Solicitor at Thursfields’ Birmingham office, said: “We were so pleased that such a deserving cause won our £250 donation.

Anawim itself is a wonderful charity, providing support to help vulnerable women achieve their goals and reach their full potential as part of the wider community.”

Emily Johnson of Anawim said: “We’re very grateful to Thursfields for this prize, and I was thrilled to accept it on behalf of the charity.

We attended the conference to learn a few things about fundraising, so to walk away with a surprise £250 donation was a lovely surprise.

This money will be used to fund ongoing projects at Anawim, which treats everyone with dignity and respect, and helps women challenge anything which degrades and diminishes them as individuals.”

The conference is held annually by the Institute of Fundraising West Midlands to enable fundraisers in the West Midlands to meet sector leaders, fellow fundraising professionals, and develop skills and knowledge.

Katherine, who before joining Thursfields worked in-house on legacy issues for a large national charity, added: “We discovered so much about various charities who attended the conference, and were able to give free advice and guidance to delegates, some of whom we may go on to help in more detail.

“Thursfields has the experience, knowledge and contacts to advise local charities in their dealings with any legal issues involved in fundraising.”
