Who We May

Hold Documents For

It’s commonplace for law firms to take over or merge with other businesses, or stop trading completely. In these situations, some of the wills and power of attorneys they used to store are sometimes passed onto other companies.

Because of this, Thursfields may hold* documentation that was once stored by a selection of other law firms, including those that we were not the successor practice for.

These are:

  • Luke Grant
  • Broadhursts
  • Challinors (White & Billingham) in Halesowen
  • Elliott & Allen in Sedgley
  • Milichips in Solihull

*not all wills and power of attorney documentation were transferred and it cannot be assumed that we hold such documentation.  Please contact us with details so that we can ascertain the position.

How to Retrieve

Wills and Power of Attorneys

If you think we may be holding onto your original will and power of attorney documentation and you’d like to access them, please complete the Authority to Release Original Documents form and post it to Wills Retrieval Request, Thursfields, 14 Church Street, Kidderminster, DY10 2AH. We will respond within 10-15 working days of receipt. Once you have provided satisfactory evidence of your identity, we’ll arrange to post your documentation (by Recorded Delivery) to the address you provided on the form. There is currently no charge to use this service.

AUTHORITY TO RELEASE FORM

Should you be the executor of a will or the attorney of a lasting power of attorney (LPA) that we are holding and would like to access it, please complete the Third Party - Authority to Release Original Documents form and post it to the address listed above. Please note that there is an administration fee of £10 for this service, which you can pay by cheque to “Thursfields Legal Limited”. Alternatively, we can contact you after receiving your form to arrange a different payment method.

In most cases, the attorneys will be able to access a LPA, unless the donor (the person who made the LPA) states otherwise. If the power of attorney contains a restriction, we may need to take further steps before releasing the documentation.

Frequently Asked

Questions

There is currently no charge to receive your own documentation. A £10 fee will apply if you are a third party (such as an executor of a will or an attorney in a power of attorney). Should we hold either a will or power of attorney, plus a property deed, the fee to retrieve all documents would be £15.

It’s recommended that you update your will every five years. However, if you undergo a change in circumstances such as a divorce or separation, or moving house, it’s a good idea to review your documentation as soon as possible. We have an extensive team of solicitors who can assist with this.

Property Deeds

Retrieval

Much like we hold onto wills and power of attorneys that were once being kept by other law firms, we also look after property deeds as well. If you believe we may be in possession of yours, our team will be happy to help.
