These rights include time off for ante-natal appointments and statutory maternity and paternity pay. Couples can now also share parental leave and statutory parental pay. Employees with at least one year’s service are entitled to 18 weeks’ unpaid leave which may be taken until the child’s 5th birthday, or 18th birthday in the case of a disabled child.

If you are pregnant or on maternity leave you have protection from being discriminated against in relation to your pregnancy or illness suffered as a result of your pregnancy.
