Thursfields to sponsor Shirley Band’s centenary concert | Family law

Thursfields Solicitors is to be headline sponsor of Shirley Band’s centenary concert at Shirley Baptist Church on Saturday 11 May.

The concert will feature a range of original works for the brass band, as well as arrangements of classical music and popular music.

It will be led by the band’s principal conductor David Hirst, who recently steered the band to fifth place at the annual regional brass band championships.

Thursfields’ link with the Shirley Band came about through Anne Parsons, a PA in Thursfields’ Family department since 2003, who plays solo horn with the band in her spare time.

Brian Johnson, Shirley Band Secretary, said: “We’re delighted that Thursfields has chosen to support the band for its centenary concert, an event we are all hugely excited about.

We’re proud of our long association in the community, and really appreciate the funding provided by local businesses, such as Thursfields.”

Shane Miller, Director of the Family department at Thursfields, said: “We’re delighted to support this historical concert and it’s great that we have one of our own in the band.”

Shirley Band was formed in 1919 by W H Hodesdon Senior, the grandfather of the band’s current President, Donald Hodesdon.

The band plays at many concerts and events throughout the Midlands but is particularly proud to continue to support the local community of Shirley.

It leads the hymns and plays the Last Post and Reveille for the annual Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph at St James Church in Shirley, as well as putting on its own concert series.

The concert will be held at 7pm on Saturday 11 May at Shirley Baptist Church, Stratford Road, Shirley, Solihull, B90 3BD. Ticket prices are £8.50 for adults, concessions are £7 and children under 12 are free.
