Thursfields raises £1k for breast cancer charity in Birmingham’s 10k run

Five keen runners from Thursfields Solicitors raised more than £1,000 for a local breast cancer charity by taking part in The Great Birmingham 10k Run.

The challenging route in blisteringly hot weather on Sunday 6 May was tackled by Thursfields’ directors Michelle O’Hara, Julia Warrilow and Gareth Burge, along with solicitor Kirsty Underhill and trainee solicitor Joe Rollins.

The Thursfields’ team raised £1,085 for Breast Cancer Haven, West Midlands, which supports women impacted by breast cancer.

Gareth said: “Everyone at Thursfields is proud to continue working closely with Breast Cancer Haven, West Midlands which is a fantastic cause. The charity’s Solihull centre is a much-needed new facility for the local community and we are now looking at how we can carry on working together on future fund-raising events.”

Joe added: “The run was tough in the heat, but it was great to do something for a local charity that we’ve been working with closely for a while now.”

The money raised by Thursfields came from scores of colleagues, family, friends and clients via JustGiving.

Breast Cancer Haven, West Midlands officially opened at St Bernards Road, Solihull last October to provide support for patients living with breast cancer in the region, offering a programme of therapies including counselling, acupuncture and aromatherapy massage.

Matthew Price, corporate fundraising officer at the charity, said: “It’s through the generosity of companies like Thursfields that we will be able to support women with breast cancer to hold on to their individuality, confidence and strength.”

Breast Cancer Haven, West Midlands must raise £500,000 each year to run its free support service for local women, and anyone wanting to get involved should contact fundraising manager Amanda Elliott on 07497 354428 or email Amanda.elliott@breastcancerhaven.org.uk.
