Solihull firms’ dust off their football boots for charity

Teams from businesses across Solihull will compete at six-a-side football later this month at an event organised by Thursfields Solicitors to raise money for the Get A-Head Charitable Trust.

Thursfields and Get A-Head will co-host the tournament at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre from 5 to 8pm on Thursday 27 June.

Staff have already signed up from Thursfields, Get A-Head, Prime Accountants, Lloyds Bank, A-Plan Insurance, The UKF Group, Jerroms Accountants and Solihull Combat Centre.

In all there will be 12 teams with both male and female players of varying ages, shapes and sizes, each aiming to win the inaugural ‘On Your Head’ trophy.

The teams will each donate £30 plus VAT to take part and there will be a raffle during the evening, for which organisers have said they would welcome any prize donations.

Robert Pettigrew, a Director at Thursfields’ Solihull office, said: “We are delighted to be working with Get A-Head on what will be an exciting football tournament.

Get A-Head is a wonderful charity that does so much for people with head and neck problems and we know that support from across the Solihull business sector plays a key role in this.

As well as helping this great cause, the tournament will also provide an opportunity to see which firm can really kick it in Solihull and walk away with the coveted trophy and bragging rights.

I hung my boots up a long time ago but am really looking forward to dusting them off and hopefully as hosts Thursfields can make an impact as we might have one or two surprises up our sleeve.

We just have to hope that none of our rivals has the odd Moors player turning up!”

Louise John, Charity Manager for the Get A-Head Charitable Trust, said: “We’re very excited to be working with Thursfields on this exciting event bringing together a number of key local companies.

We’re hoping the event will both continue to raise the profile of Get A-Head in the borough and, of course, raise much needed funds.”

Get A-Head is aiming to raise £350,000 in 2019 to assist with the charity’s ground-breaking research and purchases of life-enhancing equipment.

Louise added that Get A-Head would also be delighted to welcome donations from anyone not directly involved in the tournament via the charity’s website at www.getahead.org.uk.
