With increasing financial pressures and regular modification to government legislation the education sector faces a period of change and uncertainty. Our education contacts include both higher and further education institutions, academies, state and independent schools. We are currently partnered with Kidderminster Academy, Birmingham Metropolitan College and Worcester Royal Grammar School and most members of the education team have hands on experience as mentors and governors for local educational institutions such as the University of Worcester and ARK Academies.

In addition our team has a wealth of experience advising private individuals who are teachers, parents, bursars and governors in connection with their personal legal needs. Our education team offers a wide range of private client services, specifically tailored to the education sector, and members have both professional and personal experience of advising in respect of a range of issues concerning children and young adults with Special Educational Needs enabling them to assist parents in the following matters:

  • Liaising with professionals regarding SEN diagnosis;
  • Advising in respect of Education Health and Care (“EHC”) Plan applications;
  • Working with parents and Local Authorities in respect of EHC Plans;
  • Working with parents and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services for students aged 16 to 18;
  • Advising court appointed guardians;
  • Representation and advocacy at panel hearing;
  • Disciplinary matters at tribunal

 

The education team is led by Lauren Hartigan-Pritchard. Before qualifying as a lawyer, Lauren worked for OFSTED, adding valuable experience to her role as an educational specialist at Thursfields. Lauren is rated in Legal 500 2016 as providing “good, solid, commercial advice.”
