New charity disputes service offered by Thursfields

Thursfields Solicitors has expanded its charity services and is now providing specialist advice on third sector disputes.

The law firm has upgraded its offering with senior associate solicitor Katherine Ellis joining the firm’s Charities and Communities team to work alongside department head Jenny Smith.

This team will provide expert advice on matters such as trustee disputes or other contentious issues that might require the involvement of the Charity Commission.

Katherine Ellis, who before her role at Thursfields worked in-house for a large national charity in London, said: “I’m thrilled with the expansion of my charity role.

“Thursfields recognises where its clients have an increased demand for legal assistance and adapts, grows and develops accordingly to fulfil those needs – emphasising our client-centric approach. 

“This shows how, despite the current climate, both the firm and the Charities and Communities Sector department continues to go from strength to strength.”

Katherine explained how Thursfields’ bespoke services were built on the knowledge that each charity was different – some having trustees or employees with relevant professional skills, others manned largely by lay people.

She added: “However they are set up, charities are always run by people who are passionate about meeting the needs of the community or society areas they cover.

Jenny Smith said: “We work alongside charity trustees to help the charity fulfil its objectives as effectively as possible, which includes swift response and expert advice when anything goes wrong – such as disputes.
