Furlough Leave Update | Employment Law

The Government has today announced that the date from which employees have to be on an employer’s payroll to qualify for Furlough leave has changed from the 28 February to the 19 March 2020.

What does this mean in practice?

In practice this brings more employees into the scope of the scheme. Employers may now wish to consider offering furlough to those employees who had joined their business shortly before the Scheme was announced but were not previously eligible. Note they must also have been notified to HMRC on an RTI submission on or before 19 March 2020.
