The seminar will look at the following areas where changes to the law which may affect your business are on the horizon.

The Equality Bill

This Bill which is currently on its way through Parliament is expected to come into force later this year as the Equality Act 2010. The Act is the most extensive piece of legislation in this area for many years and will affect all employers. The key areas are:
• Consolidation of existing discrimination law
• New claim of dual discrimination
• Possible positive action
• Changes to enforcement of Employment Tribunal claims
The talk will give an overview of the current state of discrimination law and how the new legislation may affect your business. We will explore steps that will want to consider implementing now.

The Agency Workers Regulations

The rights and protection of agency workers will be strengthened in certain areas when these Regulations come into force. All businesses that use agency workers will need to have an awareness of the key points which include:
• entitlement to paid holidays and contractual benefits
• access to facilities
• anti-avoidance measures
By finding out about how the Regulations could affect your business you will be prepared when they come into force.

Redundancy and the alternatives

This section will be a ‘refresher’ on redundancy giving an overview of the basic law and procedure with reference to recent cases. We will also take a commercial look at redundancy and consider what alternatives there may be available such as:
• short time working
• lay offs
• reduction in pay/hours
The focus will be on assisting you to decide what action suits your business and the practical steps you need to take to bring about these changes.
